Pandora Stillstore & Wipe

Overview

Prerequisites for using the Pandora Stillstore & Wipe option:

  1. Pogle Platinum for Linux Version 640 or greater
  2. Pixi Firmware files - 0406 (April 2006) or later
  3. PC/Linux PCI digital-I/O card and software setup
  4. Pogle Platinum 'Stillstore' option license
  5. Pixi upgrade

Software

The Stillstore and Wipe are fully integrated into Pogle Platinum. The operation of the Stillstore and Wipe is very easy to set up and use. All reference frames saved in DPX V2.0 formatted files as un-compressed 10-bit RGB. Both SD and HD video standards are supported. Reference frames can be saved to a local disk, or on to a network-shared device.

Setup

Install Pogle Platinum for Linux Version 640 or greater, and add the Pixi Firmware files - 0406 (April 2006) or later.

Setup the software for the PC/Linux PCI digital-I/O card.

Start Pogle Platinum and check the 'Stillstore' license string in the 'Platinum Debug' window:

Open the 'Room Setup' Panel (from the Engineering window) and 'enable' the Stillstore option:

In addition, change the 'Source' values in the same panel to suit; for example:

Optionally, the destination directory of all stored reference frames can be set by clicking the 'folder' icon; select a directory from the dialog and click 'OK'.

Finally, remember to click  at the bottom of the 'Room Setup' Panel to apply and save the Stillstore settings.

Now quit and restart Pogle Platinum as requested.

Operation

Usage

The Stillstore works exactly within the current filmcache operation.

Notes

  1. The video frame buffer of the Wipe is initialised to a default frame (currently 50% grey) when a valid video signal is detected; and each time the (input) video signal re-locks.
  2. By default all frames are saved in the folder "/pogle/data/framestore".

Wipe Panels

For Pixi-MegaDef systems use the 'Wipe Pandora' Panel, otherwise for new Revolution systems use the 'Wipe Revo' Panel - in the following description 'Wipe' simply refers to either Panel.

In operation the 'Wipe' Panel shows the status of the Live and Stillstore video signals.  In addition, there is a switch to select the 'Source' of the current video (shown as "Live" below; the default is "Stillstore" however).

The Wipe parameter itself should be assigned to a Control Panel soft knob (the default is 50% so that the Wipe is fully 'open'). The Wipe parameter behaves differently to all other controls in that the 'reset' button on the Control Panel does not reset the parameter but is 'wired' instead to toggle the Wipe on or off directly (this function can also be changed in the 'Wipe' Panel). As a consequence the Wipe parameter can only be reset to its default (50%) by clicking the Panel 'reset' button; this is almost never an issue since the Wipe can easily be toggled on or off.

Finally, the type of Wipe output can be selected (default is 'Horizontal'):

The 'Stillstore' Panel is mostly a status indicator, showing the current card, input, output and genlock values.
