Vtr identification and frame rate

When a vtr or disk is connected the Pogle reads an ident from the machine. Part of this ident indicates the model and another part indicates the machine frame rate.

The model ident is used to save and recall edit setups for that machine. When a new model type is connected it may show as NEW VTR. If this happens then it will need to be configured.

The ident is not unique for every vtr, just for the model or type of vtr.

Some vtrs and disks can work in different frame rates. If the detected frame rate does not match the room frame rate, then the vtr stop icon will be displayed in cyan as a warning. This shows that either the room frame rate needs to be changed or the vtr may not match the current room standard.

or Machine matches room frame rate

or Machine does not match room frame rate

The frame rate is also displayed in the Edit Setup panel.

Some machines (HD D5 returns 30fps ident even in 24fps mode) can return an incorrect frame rate. If this happens the frame rate can be overridden in the Edit Setup panel. When the machine is disconnected, the next time it is used the correct frame rate will need to be selected again.
Contact the machine manufacturer to get them to correct the identification code.
